The defining move in this renovation is light. A large skylight sits over the center of the plan, and the cabinetry palette — pale gray perimeter, deeper navy on the island and pantry — was chosen to hold that light rather than absorb it. Original herringbone parquet flooring runs continuously through the kitchen, pantry, and living areas, tying three rooms into one connected sequence.

The Challenge
Kitchens of this size often read as corridors of appliances. The design problem was giving the room a center of gravity, and making the adjacent pantry and living spaces feel like part of the same house rather than leftovers.
The Approach
A substantial island anchors the plan and takes the seating, prep, and cleanup load. Glass-front uppers and a full-height cabinetry run keep storage from crowding the perimeter, while the butler's pantry repeats the island's navy in a narrower, more intimate space — a deliberate echo that makes the transition legible.
